A gift for the students

Score one for the administration!

This week, due to lagging ticket sales and the possibility that A.P.P.S. would lose thousands of dollars on the show, the university decided to pick up the tab of more than $10,000 for the Jeff Dunham show tonight at Farthing Auditorium.

A show that was going to cost students $8 is now free thanks to the university.

And if you already bought a ticket you can get a full refund next week Nov. 10-13 at the Student Union Information desk as long as you bring your ticket with you.

Of course, nonstudents will still have to pay $10.

This is a good move for the university . It is sort of like a present to all the students.  Although the administration sometimes upsets students or worse is even a scapegoat for students’ problems they cannot do anything about, this act of kindness is proof that the people up top are keeping the students in mind.  Really.

This is not only a nice gesture toward the student body, who now gets a free show to see first-rate comedian, but it’s also a great thing to do for the students working with A.P.P.S..

As of last Friday, less than 100 tickets for this show were sold.  Obviously, there would have been a lot of tickets sold this week but probably not enough to cover Dunham’s price tag. As a result of slow ticket sales, A.P.P.S. would have lost a considerable amount of money, meaning that they would not be able to afford to bring other acts to ASU down the road.

In way, this is also a good move for Dunham, a hysterical comedian who has appeared on the Tonight Show, Dave Letterman, various commercials and many other things.  Now instead of performing in front of a mostly empty 1,600 seat auditorium, he should be able to do his show in front of a rather large crowd.

So if you have been debating about whether or not to shell out eight bucks to see a comedian you’ve never heard of, come on down to Farthing tonight and see him for free, with your ASU I.D. card of course, courtesy of the university.

So we say thank you to the administration for the gift during the homecoming celebration.
