Fire leaves professor homeless

Beth Bliss, News Editor

Fire struck the Appalachian State University community again, as Department of Anthropology professor William Van De Berg lost his home and most of his posessions in a fire Sunday night.

Though Van De Berg could not be reached for comment, fellow Department of Anthropology member, Teresa Isaacs, said the department seeks donations to assist Van De Berg and his wife with clothing and shelter.

The most pressing need is for shelter. Isaacs said any suggestions for low-rent or temporarily rent-free housing would be greatly appreciated.

The Van De Bergs have already received several clothing donations, but more are welcome. Clothing may include ladies’ size 9-10 pants, small to medium shirts and coats and size 7 shoes; men’s size 32-33 pants, large to extra large shirts and jackets and size 9 1/2 or 10 shoes. Warm clothing is especially needed.

All donations may be brought to the Department of Anthropology, 408 Sanford Hall, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

This is currently the only donation effort for the Van De Bergs, said Isaacs.
