Stephen Marc Lecture

Photographer and digital artist Stephen Marc presents his photographs of African descendants  from locations along the historic paths of slave trade through a digital demo and lecture today on Appalachian State University’s campus.

Marc offers a digital demo at 3 p.m. today in Room 210 Wey Hall. A lecture follows at 6:30 tonight in Room 17 Kerr Scott Hall.

The visit is coordinated by the university’s Office of Cultural Affairs, Departments of Art and Technology and African Student Development.

Susan S. Cole Honored

Department of Theatre and Dance Chairperson Susan S. Cole recently received the Herman D. Middleton Service Award at the annual convention of the North Carolina Theatre Conference.

A member of the NCTC since 1975 who served as president in 1991, Cole was honored for her longtime service to the organization.

Cole was recognized for service in various leadership positions and for her work to arrange various conferences and committees.

She currently serves as president-elect and conference planner for the Southeastern Theatre Conference and as president of Alpha Psi Omega, a national theatre honor society.

N.C. Student Legislature

The monthly Interim Council of the North Carolina Student Legislature comes to Appalachian State University this weekend. Everyone is invited to attend sessions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21-23, in the student union’s Grandfather Mountain Ballroom.

Highlights of the council include chambers and discussion of several controversial topics beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, as well as an address from Town of Boone Mayor Velma Burnley at 11 a.m.

Jazz Vocal Concert

The distinct sounds of jazz will fill Rosen Concert Hall Nov. 24, as the Appalachian State University School of Music sponsors a jazz vocal concert at 8 p.m.

Admission is by donation of one canned good to further the School of Music’s food drive for the Watauga County Hunger Coalition.

The concert will feature several pieces, including “Unforgettable” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.”
