Lyman named dean of arts, sciences

Dr. Robert D. Lyman has been named the new dean for the College of Arts and Sciences for Appalachian State University. He will assume his position at the start of the fiscal year, July 1.

Dozen students return from Iraq

Twelve Appalachian State University students returned from Iraq and Kuwait with the 1450 National Guard transportation company last week.
The soldiers were deployed March 2004 and spent their time overseas hauling materials and running transportation support.

The students are currently being deprocessed before returning home for a 90-day leave.

SGA votes to equalize marijuana, alcohol violations

The Student Government Association Senate passed a resolution of policy calling for the equalization of penalties for alcohol violations and marijuana offenses Tuesday night.

No debate followed the introduction and discussion about the bill, which was sponsored by Sens. Clark C. Anderson, Autumn Furr and Amanda Gail Zeddy. All are members of the Appalachian State University chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.

Renovations continue on east campus

The east side of campus is ready to continue its facelift.

Residence hall renovations have already begun with the completion of Doughton Residence Hall and the current work on White Residence Hall, but Appalachian State University has much more in store.

BSA holds fashion show Friday

The Summit Trail Solarium will be the host of the new, revamped and highly anticipated Black Student Association Fashion Show tomorrow at 7 p.m.

The show, which has not been held in several years, has become the yearlong project of six very dedicated BSA members.

Cystic fibrosis walk/run set for weekend

People will line up on the Greenway Trail Saturday for the second annual Cystic Fibrosis 5K Walk/Run.

Sherri Wilson, exercise coordinator for Health Promotion, said the event has two goals. The first is to raise awareness about cystic fibrosis.

Trash Bash cleans Greenway

Appalachian Communicators, one of Appalachian State University’s clubs focusing on communication majors, has organized Trash Bash 2005, a trash cleanup on the Greenway Trail that will take place from 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Alum opens local yarn store

The Town of Boone has a new yarn to spin with the opening of Laura's Yarn-Tastic.

Laura Clontz, who graduated from Appalachian State University in 2002, opened the store on April 4.
