Men's basketball advances to SoCon semi-finals

Round One: Appalachian 68, The Citadel 59

The Appalachian State men’s basketball team did not waste anytime establishing their presence at the Southern Conference Tournament.

In the first round, the Mountaineers easily rolled over The Citadel Bulldogs 68-59.

Mocs defeat ASU in semi-finals, 57-51

It was the hometown favorite University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs who finally knocked off the Appalachian State men’s basketball team in the Southern Conference semifinals, 57-51.

The Mountaineers performance on the court steadily improved during each game but, despite a strong performance, it still wasn’t enough to beat the Mocs.

Women's basketball lose in first round to ETSU, 74-64

Although it went into overtime, the Appalachian State women’s basketball team could not pull out a first round win in the SoCon Tournament.

Despite the fact that the Mountaineers outscored East Tennessee State University 40-30 in the second half to take the game into overtime, they still fell, 74-64.

UTC had home court advantage

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga won the Southern Conference Tournament March 6 in a thrilling 66-62 victory over UNC-Greensboro.

It was hardly a surprise considering the tournament was played in their town, on their campus, in their house and on their floor.

Chattanooga certainly was a favorite heading into the tournament, having won the North Division regular-season title and with (losing) trips to the SoCon title game in 2003 and 2004.

Softball

Riding a second consecutive day of stellar pitching, the ASU softball team downed Louisiana Tech University 6-1 Sunday to win the 2005 Leigh's Athletic Ware Panther Spring Classic, hosted by Birmingham Southern University.
