A former Appalachian State University student was a victim of the Atlanta courthouse shootings March 12.
A U.S. customs agent living in Atlanta, 40-year-old David G. Wilhelm was found shot to death in his home.

SGA appoints judicial chair after controversy

The Student Government Association unanimously selected former Director of Student Affairs Matthew D. Whisenant as chair of the Judicial Board late Tuesday night when the SGA Senate met after the 2005-06 president and vice presidential debates.
The appointment came two weeks after senators unanimously voted not to approve another nominee, junior criminal justice major Jamie V. Roseborough.

Exchange student captures luck of Irish on St. Patrick's Day

If you keep your eyes open and have a touch of the luck of the Irish on a day like today, you might catch a glimpse of Appalachian State University’s own Irishman.
Junior Stephen C. McDowell, an exchange student from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland, has been living on Appalachian’s campus since August.

Service connects students at Hospitality House

It was 5:30 p.m. and time for dinner at the Hospitality House of Boone. Student volunteers rushed about the small kitchen stirring soups, buttering bread and transferring foods from the microwave ovens.
The guests, or clients, of the Hospitality House had congregated outside, making room for the volunteers to prepare the meal.
Some volunteers stood with them, exchanging stories. The guests told the students about their children, their spouses, their downfalls and their aspirations.
