Rentals' fate lies in hands of biased committee
Students have reason to worry over recent developments in the ongoing battle over Appalachian State University’s textbook rental system.
Chancellor Kenneth E. Peacock recently approved a motion by Faculty Senate to form a committee to study the textbook rental system, while delaying a motion to outright abolish it.

Students should spend free time helping others
While cleaning out my desk drawers this weekend I came across three pieces of paper I had received from somewhere and saved. The first sheet of paper was titled “The Global Village,” and had taken the Earth’s population, reduced it to 100 and used the existing human ratios to point out some amazing facts about how we live in the 21st century.
The second paper was a message written by comedian George Carlin about “the paradox of our time in history.” The third sheet was facts about people living in poverty.

Local restaurant 'serves up' lunch
From the outside, it looks like a tourist trap with a miniature golf course, gem mine and arcade. But on the inside, Sunrise Grill serves up tasty breakfast and lunch options for everyone.
I pass by Sunrise Grill almost everyday while driving down U.S. Highway 105 to and from my apartment. Clever messages posted on their sign, like “Eggcellent Eats,” always seem to catch my eye.
