The current Owens Field House will be replaced with a new athletics center as part of the athletics facilities enhancement plan.

Owens Field House to be rebuilt
Structure to be replaced after criticism of athletic facility enhancement plan

The athletics-facilities enhancement plan that grew so much criticism last year has changed.

Previously, Owens Field House was to be renovated to better suit the department of Athletics’ needs. Instead, the structure will be torn down down and replaced with a 77,000-square-foot athletics center.

Pollard named baseball coach

Chris Pollard has been named the head baseball coach at Appalachian State University, Director of Athletics Roachel M. Laney announced last Tuesday.

Pollard was previously the head baseball coach and athletics director at Pfeiffer University. He comes to ASU after leading Pfeiffer to back-to-back Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference championships and a 2004 NCAA Division II Regional bid.
