Jazz Ensemble plays free Farthing concert

Tap your toes and move to the beat.

Hayes School of Music Jazz Ensemble I will play a free concert Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. in Farthing Auditorium. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Special guest composer Chuck Owen and tenor saxophone player Jack Wilkins will join the ensemble later in the evening.

Freshmen Showcase highlights one-act comedies

Last week the Appalachian State University Department of Theater and Dance held their annual Freshmen Showcase.

This year's showcase was titled "Love, Sex and Losers" and was composed of two one-act comedies. The pieces were titled "Personal Effects" and "The Birthday Present".

California-based Delta Nove plays Boone Saloon

Boone residents take notice; there is a six-man West Coast funk party moving up through the southeast and expected to rock the Boone Saloon this Saturday night.

Delta Nove (pronounced No-vay), a roots-based, horn-driven band hailing from Long Beach, Calif., will be supporting their self-produced fourth album, a unique blend of party funk, Brazilian percussion, jazz, rock and dub.
