Dear reader, you must have forgotten. I know, with the pressure of final exams looming over us and all the other daily trivialities that make up our day-to-day lives, it’s so easy to let things like this slip your mind.

Maybe it’s due to a considerably bigger event. I’m talking, of course, about Britney Spears’ birthday. I sent out my card, same as last year, yet I never seem to get a reply or an invite to her party. Oh well, maybe next year will be the year.

Alas, with all the merrymaking about Miss Spears’ joyous entry into this world, it seems people have forgotten that today is also my birthday.

It’s OK; I know how unexpectedly these things can sneak up on you. Still, that’s no reason why you shouldn’t buy me presents.

So what do you get for the entertainment writer who has everything? Honestly, I wouldn’t know … I’m not that guy. But shopping for the entertainment writer who lives on a modest budget and doesn’t have anywhere close to all of his endless wants and needs, I’ve chosen two classic albums you can buy for me … or maybe just for yourself as a personal favor to me.

WASU D.J. hosts 'Mix Tape' Tuesdays

To borrow a quote from the film “High Fidelity:” “Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.”

Truer words have never been spoken. The only thing harder than writing a song is compiling songs already written to accurately convey your mood, all while following the rules of the art, which there’s not nearly enough time to get into in this article.

If anyone at Appalachian State University understands the art of mix taping, it’s WASU disc jockey Chris Giuffrida.

New play festival beats final exam blues By Stephanie Marshall

Escape the final exam blues with the New Play Festival tomorrow through Saturday in I.G. Greer Arena Theatre.

“This is a nice way to sit down and get your spirits up before exams,” Theatre and Dance Department spokesperson junior Alex M. Long said.

Long said the New Play Festival is comprised of two Appalachian State University student written plays that were submitted and selected by a committee.

The six members of Rainbow Trout provide both personal and musical backgrounds as colorful as their name.

“Our band is known for its diversity in personality,” trumpeter Jordan Katz said. “It’s interesting to watch the dynamic of the people on stage.”

Having lost and gained various band members through the years, Rainbow Trout is definitely a diverse group.

Hayes School of Music brings Scholarship Christmas Concert Dec. 6. By Bill Cutler

Coming with all its guns blazing, the Hayes School of Music is bringing its heavy hitters for an evening of holiday music at their tenth annual Scholarship Christmas Concert Dec. 6.

With performances by the school’s different choirs, percussion ensembles, and the ASU Symphony Orchestra, the program promises to deliver a Christmas variety show truly deserving of the title.
