Our Perspective ... Too hot for television: ASU Homecoming 03

According to a press release issued by MTV before they arrived at Appalachian State University to follow students around, we as a student body were told MTV was looking for “the most interesting people. The most unique stories and the most bizarre events of the year.”
We were led to believe Appalachian had a “unique and special” Homecoming that was worthy of half an hour of national airtime.

The ups and downs of falling in love
Look, I’m not big on relationship columns.
I’m not here to tell you what’s what on shacking up with someone or give you the skinny on butterflies in your tummy. What I do plan on doing is giving you this writer’s observations as of late.
That being said, allow me to give you my situation. I’ve recently noticed many a young man’s fancies turning toward the idea of commitment toward another. What I mean is, a lot of people around me are purportedly “falling in love.”
This started turning the little gears in my brain. What the hell is wrong with these folks? All I ever hear these days is “such and such didn’t call” and “so and so couldn’t make it over tonight.” Never mind the fact these folks spend just as much time cuddling as they do with their cell phones glued to their ear playing through whatever melodrama happens to be on the menu tonight, but that’s okay.

The ups and downs of falling in love
Falling in love scares the living daylights out of me.
Watching other people fall in love, for the most part, scares me too.
However, it is the fall, the bug is in the air, and everyone is doing it. Falling in love that is.
Me? No, I am not falling in love. In fact, everyday I am “out of love,” I fall less in love with the whole idea of it.
What is love, you may ask?
To me, love is being able to be with someone and have your life, while they still have theirs and still making your lives meet in the middle.
Haven’t found that. Actually, I think I have had the opposite of that. Our lives just ended up colliding.
Love is seeing me in every light possible and not getting scared. Good luck on that one.
Love is being able to get me to sleep in. I never sleep in, and someone who can distract me from what I should be doing that day is pretty special.
Love is honesty, trust, and smiling. Someone once told me that at this point in our lives, the only reason to be with someone is because pure and simple, that person makes you happy.
