   The Eastern Kentucky Colonels have a new coach, a new quarterback, and a new offense.
    Thanks in part to some horrible special teams plays by Appalachian, the Colonels series with the Mountaineers now has a new streak as Eastern Kentucky hammered the Mountaineers 35-7 on Saturday, in Richmond, Ky.
    The win enabled the Colonels to claim their first win of the series since 1991.

Athlete graduation rates consistent with student body by Hugh Kellenberger

    Appalachian State University graduated 60 percent of their student-athletes from the 1996-97 freshmen class, according to the 2003 NCAA Graduation Rates Report. The four-year average for student-athletes is 61 percent.
   These numbers place ASU in a tie for eighth in the Southern Conference, with Virginia Military Institute, but third among other public universities.

   This season there will be a lot of new faces joining the women’s soccer team.
   “We have good depth, a very good freshmen recruiting group coming in,” Ben Popoola, who returns to his seventh season as head coach, said. “One of our weaknesses in the past is having enough forwards who can score goals.”

Club hockey begins first ACHA season, looks to claim second championship by Michael Trivette

   How can a hockey team with no home ice rink win a championship?
   The Appalachian State University men’s club hockey team, who travel to Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Charlotte to practice, won the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference (BRHC) championship last season.
    This season, the men’s hockey club has only one goal in mind: to win another BRHC championship.
