Today is the date of the Republican and Democratic Party primaries for the state of North Carolina.

Today the six-way battle to go against Governor Mike Easley in November might be finished, with a victor declared. Or it could go to a run-off next month.

While the tight races in North Carolina may be few and far between in the primary season, the general election is sure to be fierce.

Delaying elections first step towards tyranny
I hope I was not the only one who felt a shiver up their spine when I saw the headlines last week, when “Officials discuss how to delay election day” blared the CNN online report.

According to an article in Newsweek, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge discussed such a move after a letter written by DeForest Soaries, the chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance commission, expressed the concern that no part of the government currently had the authority to delay elections in the case of a terrorist attack.
