Cut "Robot" some slack since it's summer

It’s summer, and that means Will Smith is back, cracking jokes and getting into trouble. He’s always dealing with some sort of cataclysmic problem around this time. Doesn’t he ever go to the beach?

Now we get “I, Robot.” It’s another in the long line of Will Smith summer spectaculars, humor, drama, action, special effects and more! This time, however, the film is a little bit smarter and a little more interesting thanks to its literary roots.

Music camp concert series goes out with a bang

The most affordable concert series of the summer is taking place at Appalachian State University.

The Mariam Cannon Hayes School of Music is running a festival concert series through Saturday that is open to the public at no cost. The series has been running successfully since the beginning of the month but there are several programs left in the schedule.

The concert series is actually tied to the Cannon Music Camp held annually during the summer. The camp is in its 36th year, started in 1969 by Charles Cannon and former Chancellor W.H. Plemmons as an “intensive musical camp for pre-college students,” according to Dr. William G. Harbinson, Dean of the School of Music.
