2-0 during this weekend’s road games and improved to 7-5 on
the year, 3-1 in the Southern Conference.
After a one-day delay because of rain, the Mountaineers downed the
Wofford College Terriers Friday by a close 4-3 decision.
No. 2 player Dimitar Dimitrov bounced back from a first set loss
to win the next two sets 6-3 and 7-6 to earn Appalachian’s
first point of the day.
No. 3 player Ben Shuster followed suit and defeated Chris Barlow,
3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
With Wofford ahead in points 3-2, No. 6 player Jason Nuis earned
a hard fought battle over Jason Mengel, winning 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
With the score tied at three going into the doubles play, ASU won
two of the three doubles matches to take the victory.
After the close victory, ASU won easily the next day at the University
of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
ASU won their first four singles matches, giving them a 4-0 lead
and a guaranteed victory. No. 5 player Andrew Taylor was in the
midst of a close match when he was forced to withdraw because of
an injury.
Taylor’s loss was the only one during singles play.
Chattanooga swept all three doubles matches to earn a point, but
still fell 5-2.
