Our Perspective ... Religion absences bill a step in right direction

Year after year, Appalachian State University strives to increase diversity among the student body.

At this time, many non-Christian holidays do not appear as scheduled breaks forcing many students to chose between their religion and their education.

According to the bill passed by the SGA Senate, many students of diverse religious backgrounds have not been allowed to complete assignments they have missed, and some have been guaranteed that an excused absence will replace the missed class due to religious observances.

Sometimes media can give wrong impression
Anyone who knows me knows about my fear of asbestos. I’m deathly afraid of it. Merely mentioning asbestos sends chills up my spine.

If at all possible, I try to keep away from old buildings containing asbestos in fear some of it might get kicked up, inhaled into my lungs and the next thing I know I’m 50 and dying of cancer. In reality, I have a much greater chance of dying in a car accident pulling out of a parking lot than inhaling some small dust particles that just so happen to get kicked up in the air as I’m walking through an abandoned building constructed 40 years ago.

Make sexual decisions with serious thought
Sex is a great thing. It’s exciting, mind-blowing and pleasurable. Sex connects you emotionally, spiritually and physically with your partner. Sex is one of the most powerful forces driving our society. Sex is good; those who teach that sex is dirty should be beaten like a rented mule, for they are clueless.

The question is not if sex is good or bad, the question is whom it should be with.

I’ve heard many people compare sex with buying a car or a pair of shoes. You would never buy a BMW without taking it for a test drive, or a pair of Jimmy Choo’s without making sure they fit.
