All the Mountaineers can do at this point is wait.
With one more weekend of regular season Division I-AA football before the selection committee fills the playoff brackets, Appalachian State University is in a good position to make it to the postseason.    But nothing is set in stone yet.
Appalachian finished its season last weekend with a 24-14 win over regional rival Western Carolina University. The win left the Mountaineers with an 8-3 overall record and a 6-2 Southern Conference record.
But last weekend was full of surprises for Division I-AA football.
The University of Montana, the defending National Champion, lost its first game of the season. The Grizzlies had held steadily at No. 1 in both the Sports Network and the USA Today/ESPN polls throughout the season. They dropped to fourth on both after the defeat.

Special to The Appalachian
The Mountaineer women’s club volleyball team are in the newly established Carolina Club Women’s Volleyball League (CCWVL).
With a team of 11 women representing all four classes, the Appalachian State University women’s Club Volleyball team has a unique blend of experience and youth that has them excited about this year’s play.
The experience of the team comes largely from Lindsay D. Lamb. Lamb, a junior secondary education major from Asheboro, serves as the team captain, coach and president for the club. She is in charge of running and organizing the practices, which usually run for two hours on Monday and Wednesday. However, there is a possibility of adding another day for practice if the team agrees on it.
