Our Perspective . . . Channeling funds from needs to wants
The Football Opportunities Committee’s proposal to expand varsity athletics facilities is making its way to the Board of Trustees (BOT) with the suggestion to cap general student fees. Capping these fees will mean the loss of a 5 percent increase to areas under general fees. This 5 percent will instead fund the expansion of Owens Field House, new gates for Kidd Brewer Stadium, resurfacing the stadium field and renovating Varsity Gymnasium.
Sounds like a good deal, right?
Maybe not for every student.
Small hopes remain for Sunday night T.V.

For many Americans Sundays are a time for relaxation, fellowship and family. Some people play golf, some people garden and others watch television.
During the fall and winter months, Sunday television is dominated by football, but when night falls the attention often turns to HBO original series.
“Sex in the City” parties and talk of what happened on “Six Feet Under” dominated the summer, until HBO broke the news of when the new “Sopranos” season would start.
Does fighting prove superiority or ignorance?

If you’ve ever been to a party here at Appalachian State University, then chances are you’ve run into the following situation. There you are, enjoying the evening when suddenly an unsettling mood sets in. Before you know it, a crowd has congregated around two individuals screaming their heads off at each other.
In this bizarre ritual you get to witness two guys trying to put on their meanest look while beating their chest with their arms, screaming something to the effect of “What?! What?!”
