Eller: Amendment needs more research

   Student Body President Ryan M. Eller kicked back to the senate an amendment to the Student Government Association Constitution concerning student petitions last Tuesday.
   Eller, while not vetoing the amendment, said technical problems in getting online voting set up made it impossible to vote on the amendment by the original dates. Eller said there were concerns about a lack of research accompanying the bill.

    Solarium construction slow downs have placed University Bookstore construction three months behind schedule, Director of Design and Construction Dr. Clyde D. Robbins said last Thursday.
   “The contractor didn’t start when they could have,” Robbins said.
   Crossley Construction of Knoxville, Tenn., is handling the beginning stages of both the bookstore and W.H. Plemmons Student Union solarium projects.

   Southern tradition claims “women should be seen and not heard,” but dedicated female leaders, such as Appalachian State University professor Dr. Glenda J. Treadaway, strive on a daily basis to shatter such stereotypes.
   Treadaway is the current president of Pi Kappa Delta, a national debate honorary and past president of the Cross-Examination Debate Association (CEDA), the largest debate association in the world. Treadaway has worked to expand the world of debate to include the underrepresented population of women debaters.

    “Asian Invasion 2002,” the Asian-American Student Association’s (ASA) annual Asian Festival, was held Friday to present the different cultures of Asia to the Appalachian State University campus.
   Different aspects of Asian customs were represented through performances, demonstrations and food.
