Sports Beat
For the third time in school history, the Appalachian State University men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the Southern Conference (SoCon) titles. The wins marked the ninth for the women and eighth for the men since joining the SoCon. With 17 titles between them, the Mountaineers have won more cross country titles than any other SoCon team, past or present.
On the women’s side, three Mountaineers led the way to victory in record-setting fashion. Senior Sarah Primeau, sophomore Katie Sujkowski and freshman Jennifer Kelley finished respectively ranked second, third and fourth. This performance puts them as the most dominant trio in conference history because never before have three runners from the same team finished in the top four at the SoCon Championship.
