Mountaineer senior quarterback
Joe Burchette (16) hands off the ball to senior Jerry Beard
(34) during Saturdays 36-20 loss to the Georgia Southern
Eagles in Statesboro, Georgia.
In Statesboro, Ga., there is a
thin, blurry line between the quarterback an d the running back.
Georgia Southern Universitys sophomore
quarterback Chaz Williams and freshman running back Jermaine Austin
could not have seemed more similar in the Eagles 36-20 win over
Appalachian State last Saturday at Paulson Stadium.
Both reached the century mark in rushing. Austin
picked up 133 yards against the Mountaineer defense followed by
Williams 117 yards and three touchdowns.
The situation was very similar to the two teams
meeting in Boone last year, when GSU quarterback J.R. Revere ran
for 124 yards and four touchdowns.
Williams only completed three out of six passes for 73 yards. It
was his fourth straight game with over 100 yards rushing.
After a tough loss in Statesboro, Ga., against
Georgia Southern University, the Mountaineers return to Appalachian
State University looking for some more Magic in the Mountains.
Wofford College and a strong running game come calling for the 41st
homecoming game to be held at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Youre always in tune to alumni coming back, said
head coach Jerry Moore. The thing that is paramount now is
there are four teams 4-1 in the Southern Conference (SoCon). In
the past, homecoming has had no bearing; now it is important for
everyone.
Moore is looking to improve upon his 11-2 mark in homecoming games
and continue his unbeaten streak (6-0) versus SoCon foe Wofford.
I dont pay attention to those things, Moore said.
We want to play well and have a lot riding on this game as
far as conference championships are concerned.
