Our Perspective ... Quantity vs. Quality
The entire nation is currently looking at an increase in students entering college, due to another surge from a “Baby Boom.”
Appalachian State, along with universities nationwide, is dealing with changes that come with increased student numbers. North Carolina alone is estimating over 100,000 students entering four-year institutions over an eight-year stint.

I knew there was going to be some controversy when I first saw the editorial and the cartoon that went with it. What surprised me, however, was the amount of sheer anger directed at the cartoon printed along with the editorial.
Published in the Sept. 12 edition of The Appalachian, the editorial and cartoon concerned the protest held by the campus chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) during the annual Walk for Awareness, which NOW felt was not raising enough awareness by being silent.

Sports Beat

Throughout the summer, people engage in various activities to occupy their time. Some travel, work, go to school, or play and watch sports. During the summer is when my favorite two sports have the gist of their seasons, but this last weekend and starting Tuesday are the most exciting times.
The sports I enjoy the most are baseball and golf, and the events are the Ryder Cup, which was played Friday through Sunday, and the Major League Baseball playoffs, which begin with the division series Tuesday.
