With 10 minutes left
in the game, possession of the ball and a four-point advantage,
The Citadel looked to tailback Nehemiah Broughton to run the ball
and the clock down.
The Mountaineers had other ideas.
Appalachian State defensive end K.T. Stovall laid
into Broughton to force a fumble that Josh Jeffries fell on, giving
the Mountaineers possession and the momentum in a game that saw
a plethora of big plays.

Experience
is how Appalachian State University beat the Bulldogs Saturday.
The experience of senior quarterback Joe Burchette is what led to
a 37-28 Mountaineer victory over The Citadel.
Saturday was the first time this season the fifth-year
senior started for Appalachian after playing the second half against
Liberty University a week ago and sitting out against Eastern Kentucky
University and Marshall University.
It was Burchettes experience that led him to a career-high
29 completions on 45 attempts for a total of 357 yards.
The 29 completions tie Burchette at second in
the ASU record books for a single game. Bake Baker connected 29
times on 50 passes in 1997 against Clemson University.
Burchettes performance against The Citadel
also marked his fourth game with over 300 yards in passing and moves
him to third in the record books for single game passing yards,
right behind his 379-yard performance against Western Carolina University
in 2000.

Ninth-ranked Northeastern
University visited Kidd Brewer Stadium Friday to take on the Appalachian
State University field hockey squad. The light mist and Northeastern
offense persisted throughout the game as ASU fell 5-1.
To fight the entire time like we did is
a great accomplishment, said assistant coach Ryan Langford.
Not once did we give up out there, the score
ended up 5-1 but were still proud of them, they did a good
job.
Northeastern was led by sophomore Liane Dixon,
who not only opened the scoring against the Mountaineers but also
pulled the hat trick. At 11:32 into the match, Dixon was able to
break free to score an unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later
Dixon managed to duplicate her earlier performance by scoring another
unassisted goal.
