... Students: Register and cast your vote! |

|
Between writing papers,
studying for exams and other activities making up the busy daily
routines of Appalachian State University students, it is easy to
forget about what is going on in Boone, the state or even the nation.
What glimpses of government activity many students
do get is from the nightly news or a quick read of the newspaper.
Overall, the majority of students are unaware
of the dealings of local government in Boone.
Elected officials make decisions that affect the students of Appalachian
State, and in the past we have known little about them.
The Appalachian would like to remind our
fellow students we are part of this town, too. We are legal adults
and have the right to vote.
Local elections will have more of an impact on our day-to-day lives
than what goes on in Raleigh or Washington, D.C.

For so
many people in the world, death is a scary topic of conversation.
As I have entered my senior season here at Appalachian
State I have searched my brain for many reasons as to why humans
exist and what we were put on this earth to do. With dreams of becoming
a well-to-do professional on the minds of many soon to be graduates
the age-old question has to be on the mind.
What is the meaning of life?
Many strive to improve the life of others as well
as their own but still ponder this question.

Graduation
is a time of high spirits, a sense of accomplishment and the pride
and inclusion of parents who have worked hard to support you in
your quest for the educational Holy Grail, your diploma.
It stands to reason that your family should be
included in the celebration and proclamation of your success, but
such is not the case for many Appalachian State University students.
