Believe it or not,
it is the fifth week of school and some students are still trying
to get into the swing of things.
The Black Students Association (BSA) will sponsor
a motivational speaker, Dr. Debyii Thomas to ignite those ambitious
drives of students that still may still be in summer mode Wed.,
Sept 25.
Thomas, a Professor of Communications at Howard
University in Washington, D.C. will be visiting Appalachian State
University to conduct a workshop entitled Heart of a Leader.
The workshop will begin 4 p.m. in the Attic Window
room located on the first floor of Plemmons Student Union.
She will address many issues involving leadership,
the role of a leader, and becoming a leader. She will also work to
create an awareness regarding leaders and their responsibilities to
their cohorts and themselves.
Through Dr. Thomass years of experience she has a lot
to offer students in terms of building their leadership abilities,
said Tracey Wright the director of multicultural student development.
Thomas will also speak at 7 p.m. in the Price Lake room in the union.
Her speech is entitled United We Stand, Divided We Fall.
It will focus on the importance of unification and its relevance to
leadership.
She is a gifted speaker who can hold anyones attention,
said Wright.
BSA encourages everyone to attend these events aware of the benefits
that Thomass words could have on organizations, those who are
already leaders and those who aspire to become leaders.
BSA is a club that welcomes anyone to join with the goal in mind of
creating a more diverse group of students.
Our biggest goal is to create awareness of the African American
culture and unity among all people, said BSA president and junior
communication major Tara Haynes.
BSA meets every first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in the Attic Window
room of the union.
Thomas may create a buzz around campus with her inspiring and thought-provoking
words.
School is in full swing; do not wait until week six to jump on the
leadership bandwagon. |
