Appalachian State junior Alisha Little (258),
Winthrops Stephanie Vangsne (377) and Appalachian senior Sarah
Primeau (261) were the top finishers in the Covered Bridge Open
held in Boone Friday. Vangsne finsihed first, followed by Primeau.
Little finished fourth. |
As the pack made
their way around the 5,000k State Farm course, two Appalachian
State University runners were in the lead.
The home crowd urged them on and they became excited, then in
a good show of emotion and team spirit senior Sarah Primeau and
junior Alisha Little slapped hands and pushed on.
Everyone was yelling for us and it seemed
like a natural movement, said Little.
Primeau and Little were unable to hold their
position at the top but did finish second and fourth respectively.

Senior captain Emily Walls scores one of her
four individual goals for ASU in their first win this season against
St. Francis. |
Behind senior captain
Emily Walls, the Appalachian State University field hockey team
racked up its first win in convincing style over visiting St. Francis.
Walls netted four goals while the entire St. Francis
team only shot the ball four times in the Mountaineers 6-1
win.
Our coaches told us to go out and have fun
today, said Walls. [Four goals] is my idea of fun right
there.
The game was Appalachians to win from the
very beginning. In the first two minutes Nara Brookes made a perfect
pass to Walls and she knew exactly what to do with it, put it home.

Freshman defender, Ann Holladay goes in

Despite strong defensive
efforts, the Appalachian State University womens soccer team
remains unable to kick their season into gear after dropping their
third straight game of the season to Radford University by a score
of 1-0 on Sunday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
The first half was a spectacle of outstanding
defensive plays by both teams. The Radford Highlanders made only
three shooting attempts, while the Mountaineers were held firmly
to zero attempts.
