Our Perspective... Search committee must find good leader
      The search has begun.
Within a month after Dr. Francis T. Borkowski announced his retirement, the Appalachian State chancellor search committee was formed and held its first meeting.
The Appalachian commends the search committee for its early start.
As UNC system president Molly C. Broad said at last week’s meeting, the committee is one of the first out of the gate and has a good chance of completing its work early next spring.
But the committee should take to heart this is a difficult task they have ahead of them.
In the course of Appalachian’s 104-year history there have only been five chancellors. Needless to say, finding a new chancellor is not something done every day.
A survival guide to summer’s music festivals

So you want to go to a festival? Good for you.
I know when I’m looking for a rocking good time, seeing the summers biggest sellers packed onto a stage to perform half hour sets that usually culminate in their biggest MTV hit, all whilst shucking out $6 for a bottle of water and dealing with the 40-year-old guy in the tie-dyed shirt with no sleeves and acid washed jeans screaming “Whoooooo! Mosh Pit! Whooooo!”
Yeah. Sounds like a great time.
Yet every summer, legions of rock ‘n’ roll fans get herded like cattle into abandoned raceways, amphitheatres and parking lots, only to have to deal with unbearable heat and even more unbearable alcohol-induced idiocy.
Cheap leisure alternatives for tight budgets

Ahh,the summer. This time can creep by without proper amusement for the always-ADD college students I know we all are.
The amusement possibilities are endless. That is, they are endless if you have a money tree growing under your bed.
Summer jobs are nice and contribute lots of helpful cheddar to the distraction fund, but unless Wendy’s drive-thru window is your style, summer jobs are slim pickins in Boone.
