Football goes to Hawaii, students sit at home

How would you like to see AppState go head-to-head with University of Hawaii in a game of football?
Who wouldn’t? I’m sure you would. However chances are most of Appalachian State students will not witness their alma mater feud with Hawaii due to increase of college expenses.
Even you students scoring 3.30 and above GPAs, probably couldn’t afford it, for you are too busy writing papers for scholarships. You represent those students who are vigorously in search of money to fund their personal venture to achieve the American Dream.
Isn’t that ironic? You deserve to see Hawaii more than anything, don’t you?
While Dean’s list students work 9-5 jobs struggling to pay for school, your football team vacates to an exotic island to play football for FREE.
Yes, you have read me correctly, for FREE.
This little vacation of theirs begins on August 30.
According to a reliable source of mine there are between 50-60 football players going.
Hypothetically speaking, 50 players depart from Charlotte, N.C. Aug. 30 to Honolulu, H.I, and stay at Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel and return on Sept.2.
According to Hawaii.com, expenses will amount to $120,000, not including meals. Remember our football players are on the Training Table meal plan.
Next year college expenses for students amounts to $10, 000, including the meal plan. This one-time, all-expense paid trip to Hawaii for the football players to rendezvous with the University of Hawaii and engage with exotic resorts, have enough monetary resources to give 12 students full ride along with leisure money.
Lets not forget how scarce scholarship money is at Appalachian State. Also do not be oblivious to the fact that Appalachian rarely gives full scholarships, just small renewal scholarships that cover half of the annual expenses. Just think, you could be one of those 12 students, who receive this full ride. Wouldn’t that be grand?
Speaking of which, direct your attention to the excessive construction that is taking place on Appalachian State’s campus.
Students lose out on shortcuts to class and have to bear the music of heavy machinery. The money that is stored away for the new Solarium by the union, addition to the Bookstore and parking deck that will stand adjacent to Whitener Hall. Where is Appalachian getting all this money from?
Why not invest more money into scholarships for students who are making the Dean’s List and not for the luxurious additions to Appalachian State University for tourists. You may shake your head and disagree with tourism in Boone, but you should not ignore that Appalachian State University is a tourist attraction thanks to the location in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
I’m sorry Dean’s list students, is that a bit much for you to stomach at once?
I hope not, just be grateful with your $700.00 plus meal plan, 3.30+ GPA and nine-to-fives. Hey we all do not possess kinesthetic ability to vacate to exotic places, so deal with it. I just thought I’d pass on a tidbit.
