Littering shows little respect to campus

As if our campus does not have enough visual bombardment, some talented artist has spray painted a ying-yang symbol on the side of Raley Hall.
I am not positive what this person’s motivation for the artwork was, but I am sure they had a valid reason to deface the building where students learn to be professionals.
Ah, the ying-yang symbol. So peaceful and balanced. Nothing represents my years as a middle school student more accurately than the black and white circle. This symbol has been painted, plastered and tattooed in more places than the infamous smiley face. Eleven-year olds sport ying-yang jewelry, T-shirts and rub-on tattoos. Perhaps one of our young visiting campers was the inspiration for the quaint design I pass by daily.
I am neither a construction worker nor a custodian, but I am guessing paint on brick is difficult to clean—but not as difficult as picking up thousands of cigarette butts each day.
I am a smoker, but miraculously, my butts make it to the “smoker’s outpost” each time. It is very discouraging to watch my peers, whom I would like to believe have some intelligence, throw cigarettes on the ground two feet away from a proper receptacle. It is more than common sense not to trash your surroundings; it is a matter of respect.
Football goes to Hawaii, students sit at home

How would you like to see AppState go head-to-head with University of Hawaii in a game of football?
Who wouldn’t? I’m sure you would. However chances are most of Appalachian State students will not witness their alma mater feud with Hawaii due to increase of college expenses.
Even you students scoring 3.30 and above GPAs, probably couldn’t afford it, for you are too busy writing papers for scholarships. You represent those students who are vigorously in search of money to fund their personal venture to achieve the American Dream.
