ASU knocked out of SoCon championship semifinials by CofC Brad Norman

Appalachian’s third seed doubles team of sophomore Alon Cohen (l) and junior Jacob Stapleton (r) in a recent home match. The tennis team was knocked out of the semifinals of the SoCon tournament by CofC.
   The Appalachian State men’s tennis team made the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament before running out of steam and losing to the eventual conference champions April 16-19.
    Drawing a four seed, Appalachian received a bye and played the fifth-seeded Terriers from Wofford University.
    Appalachian easily handled the Terriers, defeating them 4-2.
    Erez Cohen started the match by defeating Wofford’s No. 1 seeded player Kent Ball in three sets.

    Appalachian State University sports do not stop for Easter Break.
Both golf teams played in the Southern Conference tournament over the break.
    The men’s team placed tenth out of 11, finishing just one stroke behind the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga at the tournament held at Forest Heights Country Club.
    Appalachian’s David Thomas was ranked 20th overall as an individual player, shooting a 225, which was nine strokes over par. The next best Mountaineer finisher was Drew Davis, who fired a 236.

    There is a dynasty in the making at Appalachian State University, or maybe the dynasty is already running at full steam.
   Appalachian State competed in both the Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held in Boone April 18 and 19, at which both teams placed first. The first place finishes brought triple crowns for the men’s and women’s teams.
