Game One
Appalachian State University combined a strong
pitching performance by Joe Norton and a balanced offensive explosion
in the first three innings to take down the East Tennessee State
University Bucs in the first game of a double header at Red Lackey
Field Saturday.
Freshman Brett Pomykala set the tone for the Mountaineers
early in the first inning when he connected off East Tennessee starter
Tim Turner for a three-run homerun. The homerun is Pomykalas
third of the year.

The Appalachian
State University softball team has become accustomed to close games
this season, with many of them going down to the final inning or
out.
Before their most recent series against the Spartans
from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Appalachian
lost to Furman University 7-6. Furman was one out away from defeat
before scoring three runs to win.
As heartbreaking as that loss was, the Mountaineers
would probably rather have close game losses than the beating they
took from UNC-G during their doubleheader.
Erez Cohen claimed
the only victory and point for the Appalachian State University
mens tennis team as they suffered a 6-1 defeat at the hands
of the Elon University Phoenix last weekend.
Along with the help of Doug Ormsby, Cohen was
able to push his doubles record to 13-2 with the doubles victory
also being the only one for the Mountaineers.
