Our Perspective... Religious freedom, safety top concerns
Tonight, the Student Government Association (SGA) will vote on a piece of legislation to change Appalachian State University’s Open Flame Policy.
Currently the policy bans the burning of candles and the possession of unlit candles in residence halls. Tonight’s proposed legislation will allow students an application process for exemption on religious grounds.
The idea for legislation was brought to SGA by the Jewish Student Organization (Hillel), the Pagan Student Association (PSA) and the Appalachian State chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union Association (ACLU).

Last Tuesday I walked into my Drawing II class. To my delight, a friend from last semester had come to join the class for the day.
We are currently working on the human figure, so our class spends two hours working from a human model. It’s a very relaxing time and really just my favorite part of the course.
However, that day was not quite so enjoyable. When my friend went to get her newsprint pad out of the portfolio leaning against the wall, she found it was missing.

Today the 11th book of the Left Behind series, “Armageddon,” will be hitting bookshelves nationwide.
The Left Behind series is a fictional series based on biblical prophecy, specifically the prophecies that relate to the end of the world and the series of events that will lead mankind to that end.
The Bible itself states someday, at a time that no one knows except God himself, all the Christians of the world will be taken by Jesus Christ to heaven, leaving everyone else here on earth. This is what scholars refer to as the “rapture.”
