SGA requests feasibility study for transit system
UNCC - A request has been made to University of North Carolina at Charlotte parking services by the UNCC Student Government Association for a feasibility study to be completed for the possibility of an on-campus transit system.
UNCC is expected to grow to approximately 25,000 students within the next 10 years. To accommodate the growing student population, UNCC will be expected to expand its facilities.
“The university’s expansion will result in increased walking distances, making it more difficult for students to traverse campus between classes,” UNCC Student Body President Brian Bradley said last week.
Bradley said an on-campus transit system will alleviate parking and transportation concerns while aiding in the expanding physical environment on campus.
“I think a transit system would be a great idea on campus,” UNCC junior Rob Miller said. “We only have 10 minutes in between classes and sometimes that is not enough.”
UNCC SGA has requested parking services complete this study and present it April 23.

Duke students arrested in NCCU assault

NCCU - Early in the morning on March 31 Rashan Crumpton, a North Carolina Central University junior, was escorting his girlfriend, a Duke University junior, to her residence hall when they ran into three Duke students, according to the NCCU Campus Echo.
Senior and Duke Student Government President Joshua Jean-Baptiste and friends were allegedly waiting for Crumpton after a step-show after party in The Great Hall on Duke’s west campus.
According to the story, at the party Crumpton had been involved in a pushing and shoving match. Crumpton was escorted out of the party and decided to drive his girlfriend back to her dorm.
Crumpton said he spotted Baptiste and friends while parking Crumpton’s car near her residence hall.
Crumpton said he spotted the third student and asked him to get his girlfriend to safety. Instead, he said, another student grabbed her and started to help the other two kick and beat Crumpton, according to the story.
Baptiste and Mitchell were arrested by Duke police and released after a few hours with a $1,000 bond and charged with assault and inflicting serious injury.
According to the Herald Sun, Mitchell said his actions were in self defense. However, he quickly retracted his statements and declined further comment.

Doherty: Resignation was forced
UNC-CH - As former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill basketball coach Matt Doherty appeared on television and criticized UNC Director of Athletics Dick Baddour for asking him to resign, Baddour moved closer to the screen in his office and turned up the volume.
In an interview on the 6 p.m. “SportsCenter” with Jay Bilas, Doherty refuted Baddour’s Tuesday statement that “Matt put on the table the notion of resignation” last Saturday.
“It was discussed,” Doherty said. “That was the first time it was brought to my attention, ‘You’re going to be fired or resign by early next week.’ I’m not going to say, ‘OK, I resign.’ I was blown away. That was one of the lowest points of my professional life to have that presented to me.”
But freshman David Noel agreed with Doherty’s version of events, that he was forced to resign.
“It was my understanding that he was going to be fired,” Noel said. “It’s better for guys not to get fired, I guess, but choose to step down. But I don’t think that was Doherty’s way of getting out of here. I don’t think he was just like, ‘OK, I’ll resign.’ I don’t know why [Baddour] lied about the situation.”
Noel, who said that “one, maybe two” Tar Heels would have transferred if Doherty had remained, still defended Doherty’s coaching style.
