Eventful week for ASU leads to win over Mocs, and loss to Tar Heels GoASU.com
    Mountaineers defeat Mocs in Chattanooga
   Appalachian State University’s Lael Rorie delivered the game-winning hit and also picked up the pitching win as the Mountaineers took the rubber game of a Southern Conference softball series 2-0 Sunday at chilly Frost Stadium.
   For the third straight game, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (22-21 overall, 1-5 SoCon) got runners in scoring position, but could not get the key hits. In four of the first five innings, the Lady Mocs had a runner in scoring position with less than two outs but could not get her home. The Lady Mocs stranded seven runners Sunday and 30 in the three-game series, while ASU stranded 10 runners Sunday.

Doug Ormsby won doubles matches with partner Cohen and also won singles matches, but ASU fell to the Paladins.
    The Appalachian State University men’s tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Furman University Paladins Saturday.
    Despite capturing the early lead and momentum by winning the doubles point, the Mountaineers could not get it going in the singles matches.
    Erez Cohen and Doug Ormsby were able to pull out a doubles victory to start things off. When Ben Shuster and Andrew Taylor also scored an 8-6 victory, the team point was awarded to the Mountaineers.
    “The team [Cohen and Ormsby] played today is currently 46th in the nation,” head coach Bob Lake said. “Erez and Doug are 7-0 in conference now so they are the top team in the SoCon in doubles.”
    Ormsby was able to continue his good day by posting the only singles victory for Appalachian when he defeated Chris Henderson 6-2, 6-4.
