Mountaineers
defeat Mocs in Chattanooga
Appalachian State Universitys Lael Rorie
delivered the game-winning hit and also picked up the pitching win
as the Mountaineers took the rubber game of a Southern Conference
softball series 2-0 Sunday at chilly Frost Stadium.
For the third straight game, University of Tennessee
at Chattanooga (22-21 overall, 1-5 SoCon) got runners in scoring
position, but could not get the key hits. In four of the first five
innings, the Lady Mocs had a runner in scoring position with less
than two outs but could not get her home. The Lady Mocs stranded
seven runners Sunday and 30 in the three-game series, while ASU

The
Appalachian State University mens tennis team suffered a 5-2
loss at the hands of the Furman University Paladins Saturday.
Despite capturing the early lead and momentum by winning the doubles
point, the Mountaineers could not get it going in the singles matches.
Erez Cohen and Doug Ormsby were able to pull out a doubles victory
to start things off. When Ben Shuster and Andrew Taylor also scored
an 8-6 victory, the team point was awarded to the Mountaineers.
The team [Cohen and Ormsby] played today is currently 46th
in the nation, head coach Bob Lake said. Erez and Doug
are 7-0 in conference now so they are the top team in the SoCon
in doubles.
Ormsby was able to continue his good day by posting
the only singles victory for Appalachian when he defeated Chris
Henderson 6-2, 6-4.
