The win capped The Citadel’s three-game sweep at Red Lackey Field.

Two big innings for the College of Charleston helped push the Cougars to a 9-1 victory over the Appalachian State University softball team Sunday.
The Mountaineers started out well, gaining a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the lead would not last long. In the top of the second inning the Cougar bats got going to get that run back and provide some breathing room in the top of the third.
“College of Charleston did a really good job, they came up here to hit and they hit the ball hard,” head coach Willie Rucker said. “They showed us how to hit today because we obviously didn’t bring our bat one through nine.”

(l-r) Greg Davis, Michael Brewer and Adam Chesson traveled to Northstar Mountain to compete in nationals and finished third in the nation.
Adam Chesson had an idea in the early summer of 2002.
It was an idea that was not only drastic at the time, but somewhat inconceivable as well.
After all, Appalachian had never had a snowboarding team like Chesson conceived, much less the funds to support a new club team.
The membership of the team would have to be limited since the team would have to rely on its own funds. But now, nine months and two season later, Appalachian boasts a snowboarding team that not only just completed its first season as a club sport but finished third overall in the nation, a feat that not even the team expected.
