President Bush needs support from his country

The war has been on everyone’s mind this past week. It’s everywhere you go; it’s all you see the papers, and in the news. I wish we didn’t have to go to war. I’m sure most people would agree with that, but I also believe it was something someone had to do eventually to prevent any further terrorization, not just in our homeland, but other countries as well.
President Bush has done a relatively great job with the difficult decisions he has faced, but one thing he needs in this time of confusion is the backing and support of his country, and he doesn’t seem to have much of that. I do feel some sympathy for President Bush. First with the 9-11 attacks and now this war, it can’t be easy. No matter what he has been faced with, he has tried to stay strong for his country. He and our military are not the only people in this war; we all are, so I feel we might as well support his decisions and get this war over with as soon as possible. Not many people wanted to go to war with Iraq just for the sake going to war, but most people understand we do need to get Saddam out of power before something even worse happens to us or to the world, especially Iraq’s neighboring countries.
Bush has proved himself a very religious man. This country was built on religion, built on the foundation “In God We Trust.” So why, now that we have a president who publicly displays his beliefs, are we at odds? There have been many articles about the controversy over Bush and God and there have been many people against this side of the presidency. We are living in a nation that allows us to worship any god of our choosing and for once we have an extremely religious president in power that worships the Christian God. Bush said in an article that came out in Newsweek magazine a couple of weeks ago that he believes strongly in God’s will and believes that he is doing what God wants him to be doing by being in office. I take comfort in this fact. It’s reassuring to hear someone in such a seat of power say “May God bless you” after his speeches and to read these articles where Bush says he believes he is doing God’s will.
On the other hand, I know that there are people who take offense to this fact because we all have different beliefs. But that’s what is so great about living here in the United States of America. Regardless of this fact, whether Bush be a Christian, atheist, Muslim or whatnot, we all have this one thing in common, and that’s our country and our loyalty to our country and its leaders. We all have the same rights for freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom to protest, freedom of religion, freedom to live where we wish, marry who we wish, listen to the music we want, eat what we want and go where we want. This list could go on forever. We all should just be very thankful and blessed to have been so lucky to be born and live in such a great country where we do have these freedoms. Imagine yourself living in a country like Iraq where your freedoms are continually infringed upon and a war is taking place in your backyard. Then look at your life here in America where we are doing what we please and miles from the actual fighting of the war. It doesn’t seem quite fair.
To me, there is no need in protesting this war anymore. I don’t like war and I really wish we weren’t in it, but it’s happening; it eventually had to happen and most everyone would agree with that fact. Hopefully if we all stand together and support our president in his decisions maybe we can get this over with as soon as possible and bring our friends and family home.
