The Appalachian State University
mens basketball team lost for just the second time in Boone
this season as Davidson College crawled up the mountain to seal
their regular season sweep over the Mountaineers Saturday 94-81.
On a day honoring the six seniors affiliated with
the basketball program, Appalachian just could not provide enough
firepower to contend with the Wildcats strong offensive outing.
Davidson was at the helm the entire game, extending
the lead to 22 points with 13 minutes to go in the second half.
Appalachians hopes of winning were looking out of reach.
The game was anything but in Appalachians
control when the incredible heart and drive of the Mountaineers
began to shine brighter than ever.
As the Mountaineers began to chip away at a 22-point
deficit, senior leaders began to show why the Mountaineers are at
the top of the division this season and not at the bottom as predicted
in pre-season polls.

A feisty Appalachian State
University womens basketball defensive scheme held the University
of Tennessee at Chattanoogas leading scorer Jennifer Wilson
to only four points, out of 2-of-7 shooting, but could not find
a way to contain Tiffani Roberson.
Roberson shot over 68 percent from the floor and
came off the bench to score 25 points in 27 minutes, leading the
Mocs to a 87-73 victory over Appalachian at the George M. Holmes
Convocation Center Saturday. Roberson, whose previous career high
was 17 points, also collected nine rebounds.
Eight of Robersons points came off
of offensive rebounds, as Robersons big frame and physical
play could not be contained by a Mountaineer squad containing an
abundance of guards.
