Our Perspective... Vandalism costs valuable resources
Construction delays are a daily occurrence on Appalachian State University’s campus. Contractors are asking for project extensions and being charged late fees for most projects due to the “harsh Boone weather.”
Though contractors factor in extra time for winter weather and large downpours, they just don’t seem to have enough time to finish the jobs.
Amidst the spin and confusion lies another problem: Construction site vandalism.

I can’t study in my room.
It’s not because I live in Gardner Residence Hall, which contains the smallest rooms you’ll find on the Appalachian State University campus. There’s enough room in that tiny space to add on more wrinkles to my brain.
It’s not because my hall is noisy, either. Someone usually has music playing (what floor doesn’t?) but never loud enough to where it distracts me.

Recently, I was helping a child I know with his homework and one of the questions read somewhat like this: ‘Have you ever risked your way of life for anything, or is there anything that you would risk your lifestyle for? What is it?’ His response pointed out his youth to me. It said, simply, no.
I think he didn’t want to write anymore than he had to (a dilemma I don’t often suffer from), but the question provoked me into deep contemplation.
