Appalachian gets defeated for the first time at home this year. The last home game is Saturday at the Holmes Center.
College of Charleston did something Saturday afternoon in Boone that no other team has been able to all season. They outscored Appalachian State University at the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.
The Cougar’s offensive barrage shot 52.4 percent from the field on their way to the 108-96 victory over Appalachian.
“I wasn’t sure that we would be able to go punch for punch with them. They are a really explosive team, and I didn’t think with them getting 96 we would be able to win,” Charleston head coach Tom Herrion said.
The Mountaineers’ top-ranked offense did what fans have become accustomed to see out of them every game this season: a lot of points. Charleston was up to the challenge and beat Appalachian at their own game.
“We beat a terrific Appalachian State team today,” Herrion said.
“We are fortunate and thrilled with the victory. That was as complete and total a team that I have been a part of in a long time.”
“They shot the lots out because we weren’t guarding them,” senior Nate Carson said.
