Mountaineers won over VMI Monday evening taking another home victory to keep the streak alive. Appalachian plays again Saturday at 1 p.m. against College of Charleston.
By only looking at the final score, 83-64 in favor of Appalachian State University over Virginia Military Institute (VMI), one might assume that yet another home blowout occurred Monday evening.
While the nation’s top-ranked scoring offense scored just below their average, it was not an offensive game until late in the second half.
Sparked by turnovers, fast breaks, the appearance of freshman P.J. Bullock and a crowd-pleasing facial by Chris McFarland at the expense of a VMI player, the Mountaineers broke the game open in the final three minutes of play.

Aisha Bryant (25) and the Mountaineers defeated Davidson 63-53 in the George M. Holmes Convocation Center Tuesday.
After a five-minute standstill with the score tied 5-5 it appeared that neither Appalachian State or Davidson College had brought an offensive assault with them Tuesday night.
Finally mid way through the first half the lady Mountaineers went on a 22-4 run to give them a commanding lead over the Wildcats, then eventually pulling out the victory 63-53.
What started slow turned into a rush of offense and momentum for Appalachian behind the games leading scorer freshman Kiki Conyers. Conyers was a perfect 6-of-6 in the first frame and ended the game with 18 points.
“Those first shots felt good and we have worked on those everyday in practice, just trying to get in and shoot over the top,” Conyers said.
