The Appalachian
State University Police Department has been inundated with reports
of larceny since the beginning of the semester; however, there were
several incidents last week the department is actively investigating.
A license plate was stolen from Broyhill Inn off of a car,
University Police Maj. Larry Foster said. Apparently, it was
from a state vehicle that was parked there.
The incident took place Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 3:00 p.m., and the
vehicle involved belonged to the university motor pool.
The same day there was another incident of larceny that occurred
in Varsity Gymnasium. The Appalachian State Health Promotion for
Faculty and Staff, located at the old raquetball court, was broken
into that evening.
It was a stereo and one speaker [worth about] $170,
said Patrick B. Cromwell, health educator for the faculty and staff.
It was in a room that was locked as of 6 p.m. the night before,
but when we got to work the next morning it was propped open.
The stereo and speaker belonged to the Health Promotion for Faculty
and Staff.
Finally, there was another incident of larceny reported at the Valborg
Theater last Thursday. A report was filed with the campus police
at approximately 3:30 p.m. that afternoon, though the items were
noticed missing earlier.
Apparently, someone carried off some tools that were in that
area, Foster said.
Someone took a 12-foot, fiberglass Davidson step-ladder and
a DeWalt metal chopsaw, said Jeff McNeil, the technical director
of Valborg Theater. The items belonged to the theater department.
The value of the ladder is approximately $100, and the chopsaw is
worth about $250, but it will cost twice that to replace, McNeil
said.
Anyone who can provide information on the whereabouts of these stolen
items or the identity of those who perpetrated these crimes is encouraged
to contact the University Police at 262-2150.
