Sororities promote unity, individualism Kristen Pollock

To The Editor:
Finishing a very successful sorority Rush, I left the Student Union with a feeling of accomplishment. This feeling of accomplishment wasn’t because of the “snatching of cookie cutter girls,” but of dedication, and sisterhood that I had shared with someone.
It’s because of our individual feelings about our organizations, that we’re looked differently upon. The “glaring eyes,” aren’t taking time to “pull up their sleeves” and see what’s really there.
However, there’s no need to pull up your sleeves when it comes to our achievements, especially academics. Having a Delta Zeta academic requirement of 2.5 GPA, I am proud to say we have eight girls on Chancellor’s List, more than 15 on Dean’s List, and over half with a 3.0 GPA.
Thus, making the academic excellence proudly shown when the DZ letters are worn! So now, when you see a bunch of girls with ANY greek letters on; you will know, “Now there goes a group of real academic girls.”
Academics are only one of the strengths, but lending a hand is another. Delta Zeta donates $1000 to a student with a speech and/or hearing impaired, Kappa Delta hosts an annual pancake dinner, and Chi Omega raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
By keeping those “glaring eyes” only focused on our Greek letters, and not on achievements, we’re letting individuals bring us down. We’re a group promoting excellence. The only difference is a shared bond, one of sister/brotherhood. It’s a family-
    -A GREEK FAMILY!

Today’s society redefines ‘peace’ Barak West

To The Editor:
Upon learning of the upcoming peace protest this Saturday I instantly realized my current perception of peace was totally incorrect. After all these years of thinking I know what peace is, it turns out I am totally wrong.
Apparently using mustard gas to kill 5,000 citizens in one day is peace. Deporting 900,000 Kurds and arresting anyone who employees, houses, or assists them also seems to fall into my new definition of peace. Also, having your brother beheaded when the people of your country express the desire for a new leader is peace.
Complaining to the U.N. about the malnourishment of your people while simultaneously exporting over 2,000 metric tons of rice and other food products and selling baby milk given to you by the USA to other countries undoubtedly must be included in my new definition of peace.
    Why stop now?
It seems only peaceful to build a 6 million dollar personal palace while paying the average government employee $3.50 a month.
The day you come to power, the first thing you must do is spend an hour and a half reading off the names of people you believe to be traitors then having them and their families executed in order to have peace. All the facts presented are available in a Department of the State report conducted in 1999.
Until then, “Peace man, that’s where it’s at.” March on, I’m sure the Iraqis will be grateful.
