Nate Carson helps Appalachian keep their home winning streak. The Mountaineers beat the Catamounts 99-69. This is the first time ASU has ever had a 11-0 home record. They play again at noon on Saturday at Davidson and return home on Monday.
The Mountaineers kept the home winning streak alive Monday night as they defeated Western Carolina University 99-69.
The Southern Conference rival Catamounts strolled into Boone with their heads held high in hope of repeating their 70-69 win over Appalachian State University earlier this season.
In a first half that looked to produce a stalemate between the two teams, not much action was seen as the lifeless crowd watched a tempo that would favor the less-talented Catamount squad.
As the leading Mountaineer scoring threat Shawn Hall watched on from the sidelines, Appalachian looked lost without their go-to guy on the floor. Hall did not play a single minute in the game because of a coach’s decision, Appalachian head coach Houston Fancher said.
Although the Mountaineers entered the locker room with a 42-37 lead, the Catamounts seemed to be in a position to win the game.
“First half we came out, we played real emotional and we were trying so hard to just beat them and blow them out instead of just playing our game,” said junior forward Jonathan Mitchell.

The only time the Appalachian State University snowboard team didn’t win a race this season was when they weren’t allowed to compete.
During their meet in Bryce, Va., on Jan. 25, the team was not allowed to compete during the slalom run, as ruled by the president of the local club ski team.

The small chance of the Appalachian Club Hockey Team grabbing a playoff berth is growing more probable with every game they play.
In a dramatic turn of events, Appalachian State University swept a doubleheader Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 against Mary Washington College, positioning the team to make one final charge toward the playoffs.
