Athletic proposal: not now, not student fees
The Appalachian State University Board of Trustees (BOT) will meet tomorrow to again make decisions affecting everyone at this university. The most pressing decision they will make, however is concerning the recent athletic proposal by Chancellor Francis T. Borkowski’s Football Opportunities Committee.
The proposal is calling for $13 million from student fees and almost $17 million from private funds. This money will pay for renovations and additions to Kidd Brewer Stadium, Owens Field House and Varsity Gymnasium.
Student fees go to fund activities that affect the general student population, such as Health Services and the Office of Cultural Affairs.

   Like college basketball?
Most of us have grown up watching the great games of the ACC and NCAA, dreaming of the day when we could attend the big games and cheer in the student sections for our teams.
Many students maintain that Duke or Carolina is “My team!”
Well, what about Appalachian’s team? We are students here after all. Shouldn’t we embrace our basketball team and support them like we support countless other teams on ESPN and other sports channels?
Sororities promote cliques, not the individual

During this past week’s sorority Rush, many girls put on their best dress, did their hair as cute as possible and headed to W.H. Plemmons Student Union in hope of one thing: a sorority taking notice of them.
Sororities and fraternities have been given a very negative stereotype over time, especially through movies and television. Although some of these stereotypes may seem extreme, I am not sure they are entirely incorrect.
