Appalachian wrestler, Sean McIntosh, had two pins to give the Mountaineers 12 points. The Mountaineers finished 40-7 over Greensboro.
Three pins, a major decision and a couple of forfeits helped boost Appalachian State University past the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) 40-7.
“The kids did well,” said head coach Paul Mance. “Greensboro is a little young this year and don’t have a whole lot of kids on the team. New coach, new program, Greensboro is going to be really good in the next two years.”
Sean E. McIntosh, at 184 pounds, and Josh A. Carroll, at 197 pounds, set the tone with two pins early to give the Mountaineers 12 points.
“Me and Josh work out all the time, we do a little extra stuff on the side,” said senior Travis S. Drake. “He’s been working pretty hard; we’re going to make a man out of him.” Another pin came from the 141-pound slot where Eric S. Burns came up with the big victory.

Women’s basketball lost against Chattanooga on Saturday. Appalachian’s next game is today at UNC Greensboro.
The Appalachian State University women’s basketball team lost in a lopsided game to conference-leading University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) Saturday 70-48.
The Mocs improved their record to 8-0 in conference and added another victory to their nine-game winning streak due to the sub-par performance of the Mountaineers. Chattanooga forced the Mountaineers into 24 turnovers, and the Lady Mocs turned those miscues into 30 points. UTC freshman Tiffani Roberson paced the Lady Mocs with 12 points, which marked her sixth double-digit game in the last seven outings.
She also pulled a career-high eight boards. Miranda Warfield scored 11 points, and Jennifer Wilson tallied 10 with five boards.

Kate Leslie tore her MCL coming down the slalom on her first run Jan. 12. Leslie may possibly be out for the rest of the season but hopes to compete again soon.
During its race at Sugar Mountain Jan. 12, the women’s club ski team won the event but lost a skier, possibly for the rest of the year.
After her first run on the slalom, Kate Leslie was heading back down the mountain in preparation for her next run on the giant slalom. Two skiers approached her on both sides, and her ski tips crossed.
“I felt the tips cross, and I fell down,” Leslie said. “It knocked the wind out of me real good. My friend just thought it was a standard fall and told me to get up, but I couldn’t move. When I fell, I could feel the ligament just tear, and I couldn’t lift my leg up at all.”
Leslie tore the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee and had to be taken down the mountain in the emergency cart.
