Appalachian ranked high in the
fifth track meet of the season.
Appalachian
State University hosted some 20 teams from around the region at
the George M. Holmes Convocation Center last Saturday during the
fifth indoor track meet of the season.
The event, held Friday and Saturday, was an open meet where no final
team standings were determined.
Sophomore twins Ronda S. and Tondra L. White both made the finals,
which consisted of eight finalists in the 55-meter womens
hurdles. Ronda White finished with a time of 8.10 seconds, and Tondra
was sixth with a second heat finish of 8.28 seconds.
My start to the first hurdle was pretty bad, Ronda White
said. I stumbled off the blocks, and it hurt my time a little
bit.
Despite the stumble, Ronda Whites time was good enough for
third place overall.
Tondra White, performing a double duty, also placed first in the
womens triple jump with a 12.15-meter jump.
In other sprinting results, sophomore Jason A. Green broke his personal
best record in the 55-meter sprint preliminaries and nearly did
it again in the finals.
Green had a 6.22-second run in the preliminaries, breaking his own
personal mark of 6.26 seconds. In the finals, Green nearly broke
his new personal best with a 6.23-second run, good for fourth overall.
Green was thrilled with his run.

Appalachian club hockey stuns top

sports have seen a fair share of dramatic games this season, but
perhaps the biggest upset out of any of them didnt take place
at Kidd Brewer Stadium or the George M. Holmes Convocation Center.
It took place on a much smaller scalein a rink located in
Radford, Va.
To most students in
Boone, supporting the basketball team is not of any interest, and
it falls low on the list of things to do on a free night.
But for the few hundred or so that do don their
black and gold in support of the Mountaineers, they are given the
opportunity to see some talent rivaled only by a select few squads
in Appalachian history.
